Typically deeply-coloured and alluring , the wine shows dark fruit, anise, and mocha aromatics. The palate is sweetly layered with delicate generosity on the front giving way to an intensely structured mid. Firm, yet suavely sculpted back tannins lead the long, sustained finish.

This limited edition organic Pinot Noir has a delicious intensity, which is realised on the palate with a smooth, silky texture delivering ripe cherry and wild berry flavours which finish long and elegant thanks to its perfect balance.

The Basalte Pinot Noir is the bedrock bottling from the Willamette Valley. It is sourced from vineyards in two AVAs - Chehalem Mountains and Dundee Hills - that have fairly thin volcanic clay topsoil over fractured basalt. This type of very rocky soil lends itself to full-bodied, firmly structured wines. The Basalte captures this expressive character of the soil, with deep red fruit and a fine tannic structure that maintains the elegant style we are seeking.

They Trekked down to Central Otago to find the very best expression of Pinot Noir. Having had quite a lot of experience with fruit from the area, for us the sub-region of Gibbston shows Pinot Noir in its most finest form, and therefore we went on a mission to source fruit from a stunning little pocket just underneath the very dramatic and imposing Nevis Bluff. Like thier whites; structure, acidity, texture and an element of savouriness are the watchwords that are transposed into this wine, with that classic Gibbston nose of wild herb and briar.

The wine is a clear, bright ruby colour. A complex array of high toned red fruit aromas, ripe cherry, raspberry, cranberry with lifted floral notes, undertones of fine spice, savoury herb and quality oak Juicy, youthful and vibrant fruit driven palate. Super smooth and supple with delicate and fine fruity tannins complimenting a balanced spine of acidity. Pure cherry flavours with some sweet oak notes evident on the finish. Drinking very nicely in its' youth. Very moreish. Cellar with confidence for 3-5 years
