19 Crimes turned criminals into colonists. Upon conviction, British rogues, guilty of at least one of the 19 Crimes, were sentenced to live in Australia, rather than death. The 19 Crimes Shiraz is full of flavours of raspberries, dark plums, and chocolate. Plush tannins provide a lingering finish.

A core of dark fruit, overlaid with classic Hawkes Bay Syrah floral perfume and exotic warm spice, while subtle oak brings extra complexity and texture, combined with a splash of Viognier and Malbec to aid and enhance the floral complexity and add a twist on Hawkes Bay Syrah. On the palate the wine is medium bodied with an impression of sweet fruit and long finish driven by silky tannins and texture. Well matched to a wide range of game and red meat dishes.

There's a lovely earthiness on the palate with notes of raspberry, florals and just a touch of black pepper coming through. Plush tannins and a robust mouthfeel round off the finish. Pair with braised beef and barbecued vegetables.

On the nose, a core of dark berry fruit is overlaid with fragrant violet, rose, exotic spice and hints of cracked pepper whilst subtle, savoury oak adds complexity and a chocolate-like richness. The palate is full but finely structured with excellent persistence and focus coming from balanced acidity and ripe tannins.

The vines originate from a Heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand around 150 years ago. Produced from the gravelly soils of the Gimblett Gravels, this distinct Syrah shows an aromatic lift of floral and pepper aromatics with lushness and elegance on the palate. Deep red with a purple hue. Tremendous aromatic lift, with lavender and sweet cherries rising from the glass. The palate has significant density but a perfect balance that already encourages drinking.

A very big structured wine with good fruit concentration on the palate. This fruit is carried through in a long lingering aftertaste.

'De la terre'; literally 'of the earth' is a reference to both the vineyard soils and the earth brick construction used for the winery and cellar door. De La Terre's winemaking methods are largely traditional with emphasis on minimal handling to retain the integrity and concentration of fruit.
